Book Review of From Kiss to Queen by Janet Chapman

I am a big fan!

Janet Chapman is a great story teller!  I have always enjoyed reading her books but she knocked it out of the ball park with her new one. I had so much fun, and simply could not put it down!

From Kiss to Queen - Janet ChapmanA modern day Cinderella Story!

Jane Abbott is hunting in the Maine woods when she notices a plane coming in low. Suddenly, she hears gun fire and sees the plane going down. Jane finds the float plane upside down in a pond and without thinking, jumps in to save the pilot. He is trapped and she gives him a life saving kiss. Thus begins From Kiss to Queen. Jane has to cut the harness trapping the pilot inside before pulling him from the plane. She gets the pilot to dry land just about the time a second plane comes in with machine guns blazing. Much to the pilot’s surprise, Jane shoots back.

 And so begins the adventure.

The rescued pilot is a prince of a small emerging country!

Markov Lakeland’s family is royalty and he is the eldest son. His father is about to step down and Mark will soon be King. He was visiting the United States to look for a bride when his plane was shot down  After insisting Jane is in danger he spirits her away, forcibly dragging her onboard a submarine and then an air craft carrier to Shelikova, his family’s kingdom.

A princess in waiting? Not in a million years!

Jane Doe Abbott was left on the steps of a hospital soon after she was born. She had a crushed ankle and had to endure several operations. Even with a brace, she still walks with a limp. Raised by nuns, she is stubborn and independent. Not knowing who her parents are has left her with low self-esteem, not princess material at all.

Determined Prince meets Stubborn Angel!

The battle of wills begins! Mark falls for Jane and decides that he must have her as his bride. For a prince who’s used to giving orders and getting his own way, Jane is a challenge. Soon, the whole Lakeland Family has fallen for the spunky unpredictable Jane. Now, all Mark has to do is convince her  that she is good enough to be a Queen, his Queen!

Don’t miss this fun book, you won’t be able to put it down until you read the last page.

Happy reading, Linda

Review of New Book “The Obsession” by Nora Roberts

I love Nora Roberts!

This is an outstanding author. She writes so many different story lines, it is impossible to put her into a category. I fell in love with her latest book. If someone asked me to rate it on a scale of one to five, it would have to be at least an eight. Nora Roberts writes an outstanding mystery!

Nora Roberts - The ObsessionThe Obsession grabs your interest from the first page!

Naomi sees something no young girl should ever see. It is a hot night in rural America, in a time when a lot of people had never heard of air conditioning. Review of “The Wedding Trap” by Adrienne Bell

Something for us less than perfect people!

This book is fast paced and written for less than perfect people like me. Adrienne Bell captured the perfect heroine, a little overweight and insecure, with a mother she loves but doesn’t get along with. This is a fun read!

A fun read!

The Wedding Trap - Adrienne Bell  In “The Wedding Trap”, Beth Bradley is backed into a corner, or so she thinks. Her best friend is getting married and she is to be her Maid of Honor. Beth couldn’t be happier for Isobel, except her ex-boyfriend is the best man. Who wants to show up at the wedding without a date when their ex is involved? So, she brings out her make believe boy friend, Charlie. No one believes Charlie really exists, so she has to find a man to play Charlie and the trouble and fun begins.

Is he using her or is she using him?

She suspects he is a car thief, but oh what a car thief, with the perfect body wrapped in an expensive Italian suit. He is CIA, sent to investigate a mobster who just happens to be related to the bride. What better cover than to be the boyfriend of the Maid of Honor?

There is one mishap after another and you will laugh as you fall in love with Beth and Charlie (aka Alex). The nice thing is that Alex, in spite of Beth’s ability to stumble into trouble, has fallen madly in love with her.

A great love story with a little mystery thrown in! I highly recommend this book. Happy Reading, Linda

Book Review of The Liar by Nora Roberts

  The author!

I can’t get enough of Nora Roberts books. With a lot of authors you can tell what type of book it will be, but not so with Nora Roberts. Miss Roberts writes a series set in Ireland and then turns around and gives you a series set in a charming Inn on the east coast of the United States. You simply can not put Miss Roberts in a category because she is in a category by herself. Then she completely sweeps you away to another era writing her futuristic series as J.D. Robb. There is no one else like her.

The Liar - Nora RobertsThe book!

The Liar is aptly named. Shelby Foxworth lost her husband in a tragic accident. She finds herself left alone with her three year old daughter. The first shock is finding out her wealthy husband is in debt and nothing is as it seems. Shelby is so ashamed to have been deceived, why did she not see what was in front of her eyes? She puts her already mortgaged house on the market and sets about trying to clear some of the debt. The fur coat that he bought her and she has never worn goes back, and all the fancy clothing she acquired to support the lifestyle they led goes to a high end consignment shop. Her diamond wedding rings, which were insured for thousands of dollars, turn out to be worth next to nothing. She sells the furniture, it was ugly anyway, and takes her daughter home to Tennessee, but the shocks keep coming. Her husband wasn’t Richard Foxworth and they weren’t really married. Follow Shelby as she tries to clear a debt she doesn’t actually owe, try to make a life for herself and her little girl and find deep inside herself the strong woman she once was. A truly fascinating book of home, love, family and second chances.

Book review of Clawback by J.A. Jance

The author!

J.A. Jance writes several series as well as stand alone books. This book is an Ali Reynolds Novel that is set in the southwest. She also does a series, the Joanna Brady Mysteries set in the same area of the country. There is also a series that is based in Washington State about a detective called the J.P. Beaumont Mysteries. Miss Jance is an outstanding mystery writer and I think you will enjoy her books.

   Clawback - J.A. JanceThe book!

Clawback, the title of this book, is a term I was not familiar with. Apparently it is a term that came out of the Ponzi scheme era. When the SEC closed down a company guilty of operating a Ponzi scheme if certain investors had drawn money out of their accounts within a certain period of time they were made to pay the money back. If the SEC did not recover all of everyone’s money then what money they did recover, including what the investors had to return, was divided between all the investors. I am still not sure why “Clawback”

In this book Ali’s parents lose all of their money in a Ponzi scheme. Ali and her husband B own a security firm and they are pulled in when Ali’s father is accused of murder. This is an exceptional book full of mystery and suspense. It tells of a high tech world and the many things you can do if you know how. Ali clears her father of the murder charges and then with her parents’ help they set out to follow the paper trail back to the money.

If you like a good mystery you don’t want to miss Clawback.

Book Review: Perfect Touch by Elizabeth Lowell

Author Elizabeth Lowell

Elizabeth Lowell writes exciting romantic suspense stories that she sets in the American west and Perfect Touch is no exception. The story plays out in the Grand Teton Mountains of Wyoming.

Perfect Touch

Review of Mackenzie’s Heroes by Linda Howard

Mackenzie's Heroes by Linda HowardLong ago I read a love story by Linda Howard about Wolf Mackenzie who owned a ranch on Mackenzie’s Mountain. Years later I am delighted to find the love story between him and his Mary continues. They are older and their children have grown up, but they are still at home on their mountain. This book shares the story of two of their children.

Navy SEAL Zane Mackenzie is aboard a ship when he is contacted regarding an Ambassador’s daughter. Barrie Lovejoy has been kidnapped and taken to Benghazi, Libya, where she is being held. Zane and his SEAL unit is already in the area and are called on to rescue the young woman. When the unit goes in for the rescue, Zane gets wounded. They pull Barrie away before she finds out if Zane will live or die and fly her back to her worried father.

After a battle of wills in which her father refuses to let her have any contact with Zane, Barrie goes back home to Virginia. Barrie doesn’t understand it; she has fallen in love with a man after spending barely two days with him and now she is expecting his child. Adding to the conflict, Barrie has a feeling she is still in danger and must find Zane.

Maris Mackenzie is the only girl in the Mackenzie family full of males. She has inherited her father’s gift with horses and is working as a trainer on a farm in Kentucky.  Imagine her surprise when she wakes up in a motel room with a strange man. Maris has a concussion and it takes her a while to connect the dots. Alex MacNeil is FBI and has been working undercover to find out who is murdering expensive race horses for the insurance money.

Maris and Mac fall in love and catch a horse thief before running away to Las Vegas to get married. Then it’s back home to Wyoming for a second wedding so Wolf can have the pleasure of walking his only daughter down the aisle.

Two fast paced mysteries, two love stories and I got to reconnect with Wolf and Mary. Don’t miss this fantastic book. You will get to meet three year old Nick, the second female in the Mackenzie family, and she is a hoot!

Happy Reading, Linda Laughlin

Review for The Naked Eye by Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen

The Naked Eye - Iris and Roy JohansenIris Johansen has been writing fantastic stories for years and now she writes with her son, Roy Johansen. The two continue to create hard hitting mysteries that will keep you entertained. This is part of the Kendra Michaels series. If you have never read one of her mysteries, she was blind and with a new surgery regained her sight. Kendra learned to notice things that most people overlook, and as a result has been used by different law enforcement agencies to solve cases. She helped put serial killer Eric Colby behind bars. He was suppose to be executed, but Kendra knows that somehow he is still alive, even though no one believes her.

If you like a good mystery, you will love this one. The police finally believe Kendra when one of their own is captured by Eric Colby, then tortured and killed. Kendra almost loses a good friend to the cold blooded killer. They think they have lost him again but he has a compulsion and that is to kill Kendra. Don’t miss this one, a very outstanding story.

Cold Betrayal by J.A. Jance (Ali Reynolds Series)

J.A. Jance - Cold BetrayalNo one writes a better mystery than J.A. Jance and this one certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat. Jance is one of the few authors that can give you two story lines in one book and allow you to easily keep up with both.

Ali’s daughter-in law Athena contacts her because her grandmother, Betsy,  is receiving anonymous threats. The local police think that it is just old age catching up with Betsy. Ali promises to get to the bottom of things and meanwhile Ali’s long time friend Sister Anselm asks for her help.

With the help of her husband’s security firm, Ali soon has Betsy’s problem solved. It is a complicated matter that takes a lot of finesse on Athena’s part.

Sister Anselm is involved in a case that has brought to her attention a family of dangerous polygamists. Ali and the Sister uncover a cult that is responsible for the death of several women. The two are fighting against time to expose the Family before someone else is harmed or killed.

This is full of fast action and is a great read. Just be prepared to be glued to your seat and your reading lamp until you turn the last page. If you like an exciting mystery, then I highly recommend “Cold Betrayal”.

Happy reading, Linda
